Ruby Jenkinson from St Werburgh’s Primary School was the overall winner of our 2019 Poetry Competition with her fantastic poem ‘Travel Through My Day With Me’.

Thanks to the generosity of Bristol Water, Beese’s, and Bristol Packet Tours, Ruby won a voucher for a family trip on the Bristol Packet Tours and a meal at Beese’s Riverside Bar.

Ruby took advantage of the sunny weather and enjoyed a meal outside at Beese’s with a copy of the poetry book containing her winning poem. She was accompanied by her parents, her younger sister and her older brother, Bobby, who was the winner of our 9-11 age category with his poem ‘There Should Be A Rule About Travelling To School’. What a talented family!

Ruby’s mum said of their trip to Beese’s “Our whole family had a really lovely afternoon of sitting by the river eating delicious food in the sunshine. The ice cream was Ruby’s favourite! We went for a lovely walk afterwards along the riverside soaking up some sunshine and enjoying the peace and tranquility. An amazing prize – thank you so much.”

Ruby was not the only winner to enjoy her prize this summer holiday- our cover design winner, Imani Peglar from St Ursula’s E-ACT Academy enjoyed her trip to the Bristol Hippodrome to see Horrible Histories: Terrible Tudors. Many thanks to the Bristol Hippodrome for providing this prize.

Ablaze run their popular poetry competition each year. Primary school pupils across Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset are invited to send in poems and pictures to be in our poetry books.
