LinuxIT an IT Services company, specialising in Linux systems management has a history of supporting local charities including the Rainbow Centre for Children’s and Help for Heroes.

Ablaze approached LinuxIT in early 2013 and invited employees to support the reading buddy scheme in the local area.

Four employees are committed to participating in the scheme, working with children aged 6-10 at Woodlands Primary Phase in Yate, Bristol.

LinuxIT hope to expand the team of volunteers in 2014. The buddies visit the school once a week supporting four children each with their reading practice. So far the experience has been very rewarding for both buddies and children.

Gina Redmond, co-ordinator and volunteer with Ablaze, says: “Going to the school reading with the children is very satisfying. We’ve already seen an improvement in the children’s reading skills and hope to continue with this, seeing them through their key stages.”
