A law firm with a strong commitment to its local community, Burges Salmon is one of Bristol's largest employers.
Since launching the first set of reading buddies with Ablaze in 2009, Burges Salmon have continued building their relationship with Easton Primary School. There are now 18 reading buddies in place and new number partners have been set up in September 2012. The experience has been highly positive both on the children’s side and Burges Salmon staff. Volunteers range from lawyers to IT staff and secretaries and the firm intends to continue with these two very popular programmes. Highlights of the year were the award won by one volunteer for her loyalty, commitment and length of service as a reading buddy and the children's visit to Burges Salmon's office at the end of the school year.
Additionally, the firm is taking part in the Ablaze mentoring progression scheme with City Academy, designed to help students achieve their goals for a positive future. The school is the most diverse local secondary school and the firm is very proud to be working with them.
Throughout the year, Burges Salmon has supported Ablaze by providing a number of volunteers from across the firm to participate in Ablaze's ‘Role Models’ programme, giving presentations to Year 6 students, as well as hosting training sessions.
Tim Illston, CR Partner: "As part of our wider Corporate Responsibility programme, education is one of our key themes. Working with Ablaze has been a wonderful way of helping us put this into practice. "
